This thread summarizes a new report which argues that the nature of alignment in Asia is changing and the era of coalitions is upon us. 3 major shifts have been identified: unipolarity to multipolarity, alliances to alignments, and multilateralism to minilateralism. According to the 2023 survey by the ISEAS, the perception of the EU has improved, with 42.9% of Southeast Asians viewing the EU as a preferred and trusted strategic partner in hedging against the US-China rivalry. In addition, the survey results have shown that the EU is favored by many as a "third party" to hedge against US-China strategic rivalry and people in Southeast Asia are mainly worried about unemployment, economic recession, climate change, and intense weather events. Furthermore, there is a call for a conference to look at the demographic diversity and social faultlines in Indonesia.
