Protests have rocked Iranian cities like Tehran and Shiraz for seven days over inflation and a collapsing rial, with chants against the regime, over 500 arrests, internet blackouts, and rights groups reporting 10 to 15 deaths from security forces firing live rounds. BBC Persian guest Farrokh Negahdar, a former leftist guerrilla now in UK exile, said in an 11-second clip that the Islamic Republic did not order shootings and deaths resulted from crowd pressure, a statement shared widely by exile Niyak Ghorbani that drew accusations of echoing Tehran's narrative. Critics highlighted videos of gunfire and bullet wounds, while noting Negahdar's history and BBC Persian's broader coverage of the unrest, fueling distrust in such claims during ongoing clashes.
