1627312472418820098 @salonium @redouad I did a review paper for my population health class in med school on dracunculiasis eradication way back in 1992. It’s fantastic to see this become reality. 1
1626671695468679168 @OurWorldInData @redouad (The answer is something I never realized till now: Luxembourg is much richer than Belgium.) 1
1624531536165933063 @redouad Amazing endeavor to help earth people with their own issues! Thai can solve a lot of problems with climate change and their own issues but they can’t do anything with their own countries because they have no control over their own countries, their governments, their people. 1

1626641067427655680 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad It's tiny, basically one rich City. Can't compare it to a country really. 0
1626603032028004353 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad Perhaps due to the large number of “frontaliers” — people who live in Belgium, France and Germany but commute into Luxembourg everyday to work (and who use energy during those hours). They are not Luxembourg residents, which tends to distort a lot of “per capita” statistics. 0
1626603549911310336 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad Luxembourg is a very rich small country. Belgium is far poorer. That could easily cause a big discrepancy in consumption. 0

1626594459747241985 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad Their significantly higher GDP per capita might explain it. Could mean they import a lot more goods, ir a lot more expensive goods, replace durable items more regularly, and consume more intensive foods like asparagus/avocado/truffles/caviar. 12

1626641341512835072 @redouad @Jean__Fisch Are you going to switch to the WHO source retrospectively? Or will the data until March be from JHU, followed by the WHO data afterwards? For many (most?) countries these two datasets have similar data, but for some countries there are large differences in what is reported. 8
1624506269175250945 @redouad @greg_travis @OurWorldInData - how will this decision by John Hopkins affect what you are able to do? 4
1626656777394860033 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad They're the Luxembourgeosie 4
1626619065383936000 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad My guess: People working at Luxembourg, don't live in Luxembourg because it is too expensive. They live in neighboring countries and are driving in on a daily basis. So, their office power consumption is accredited to the small population of the country. 4
1626600405953044480 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad Sure that's not what the data description would seem to capture, but Luxembourg is such a massive outlier in this category that it's hard to imagine that's not a factor. 3
1626849070646980608 @paulg @OurWorldInData @redouad For context: Luxembourg has one of the lowest taxes in EU, so many companies are formally based there, even though they don’t operate there. This makes Luxembourg the 3rd richest country in the world (in GDP per capita) 3
