Ninth-placed Sligo Rovers pulled off a huge 2-1 upset over table-topping Shamrock Rovers on Friday night. Shamrock took an early lead through Sean McHale's own goal, but Jeannot Esua equalized on 66 minutes before sub McHugh's 98th-minute strike from Ryan O’Kane’s pass sealed the win after a Shamrock error. Sligo boss John Russell praised his team's grit, captain Will Fitzgerald made a key tackle, and the result dents Shamrock's title defense while boosting the Bit O'Red.
