Resumo
Agathe Demarais explores the effects of US sanctions on transatlatinc ties in her book, Backfire. She argues that US sanctions imposed on allies from the 1980s forwards has backfired, causing unintended consequences and harming the US in the Sanctions Age. The sanctions led to the spoils system and corruptocracy in addition to the thwarting of Gaullism in the Sanctions Age, and analyzed the costs for the global south. She talks about the fluctuation in the prices of crude and how longer-term thinking is essential in dealing with complicated issues.
