Resumo
Dr. Abiy Ahmed is being asked to take action in response to violence in Wolkite city, where security forces killed 6 people, and injured more than 15. The protesters were demonstrating to raise awareness about the chronic lack of water in the city. The Ethiopian government has also been criticized for inviting a terrorist entity for peace talks, while deacons of the Orthodox Church have been detained for simply being deacons. There is also a call for justice for Gurage people and a demand for a Referendum in their favor, with support from activists like Ashenafi Meaza, and international organizations, such as the African Union, the United Nations Human Rights and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission. Meaza Ashenafi is celebrated as WCW for being the first female Chief Justice of Ethiopia, and for her work with the Ethiopian Women’s Lawyers Association, and Enat Bank (the first bank in Ethiopia founded by female-majority shareholders).
