According to Human Rights Watch's Manny Maung, Myanmar's new Political Parties Registration Law is a mechanism designed by the military junta to consolidate their power, crush all political opposition, and prevent the country from returning to democratic rule. The law solidifies the military's control and causes a democratic erosion in Myanmar. Qasim believes that service to the people, rather than submission to an oppressive regime, is what will support the junta.
