How many people use X (Twitter)?
About 550 million a month across X and Grok combined, as of 31 March 2026, by SpaceX's prospectus. That is the newest official figure. SpaceX gives none for X alone, and its later earnings releases we read carry no user count.
| Measure | 31 March 2026 | 31 December 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly users, X and Grok combined | About 550 million | About 520 million |
| Of those, used Grok's AI features | About 117 million | About 89 million |
SpaceX's words: "approximately 1.3 billion supported accounts active in the last twelve months ended March 31, 2026 and December 31, 2025, including approximately 550 million and 520 million MAUs" (SpaceX prospectus (Form 424B4), 12 June 2026). It adds that its figure "should be viewed as an estimate of unique users across our Grok and X platforms", and the count leaves out people who only read X without an X or Grok profile. The 1.3 billion "supported accounts" are a different count, which "may include fake, spam or bot accounts if they are active".
Daily users: the last official figure is Twitter's own, 237.8 million average mDAU in the three months ended June 30, 2022, with 41.5 million in the United States (Twitter, Inc. Form 10-Q, 26 July 2022). We found nothing official that replaces it. Age, gender and time spent have no official source either, so we print none.
The index of 1.1 billion accounts further down is not a count of X's users. See methodology.
Is X growing or shrinking?
No official figure answers this for X alone. X and Grok together had about 550 million monthly users on 31 March 2026 and about 520 million on 31 December 2025, while users of Grok's AI features rose by 28 million in the same three months. In the EU, X reported 64,727,103 people for 1 January to 30 June 2026. That is about 37 million below the report before X changed its format, so it may be a counting change, and we do not call it a loss.
| Window | People in the EU |
|---|---|
| 20 April to 20 October 2023 | 115.2 million |
| 21 October 2023 to 31 March 2024 | 109,191,304 |
| 1 February to 31 July 2024 | 105,994,838 |
| 1 April to 30 September 2024 | 105,271,027 |
| 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025 | 94,830,300 |
| 1 April to 30 June 2025 | 102,004,250 |
| 1 July to 31 December 2025 | 64,767,887 |
| 1 January to 30 June 2026 | 64,727,103 |
Why we don't call this a drop. The totals in the older format ran from 94.8 million to 115.2 million, counting "inclusive non-authenticated users" (X's method). The newer format no longer splits people using a profile from those reading without one, and X's text gives no reason for the lower total that we could find. The first total in the new format, 64,767,887, is below the 76,001,687 people using a profile in the report before it. The two newest reports are about the same.
One thing our own data does show: most large accounts we read twice lost followers between April and July 2026 (details). That could reflect fewer people, or X removing accounts, or both; follower counts cannot separate them.
The EU rows are X's statements or sums of its country rows, not our measurements. Some windows overlap, and one covers three months only.
Who are the most followed X accounts?
@elonmusk (Elon Musk) has the most followers, 241,460,696, followed by @BarackObama (Barack Obama) with 118,795,026. 5 accounts on this list have 100 million or more.

Exact counts read from X's public profiles on 5 November 2026. We checked the list against Wikipedia's list (updated 1 November 2026): 50 of the 50 accounts are on both, in the same order. X publishes no official ranking, and the table stops at the first account we could not confirm, because that account may belong at that rank. An account on neither list cannot be detected.
How many followers does a typical X account have?
A median of 2. In 999,401 accounts sampled at random from an index of about 1.1 billion public X accounts created up to September 2023, with counts as of about January 2024, 31.1% have none and most have fewer than 10 (69.7%). A figure of "over 700" still circulates; we could not trace it to a study (see below).
| Followers | Accounts in the sample | Share |
|---|---|---|
| None | 310,403 | 31.1% |
| 1 to 9 | 385,572 | 38.6% |
| 10 to 99 | 209,427 | 21.0% |
| 100 to 999 | 82,328 | 8.2% |
| 1,000 to 9,999 | 10,785 | 1.1% |
| 10,000 or more | 886 | 0.1% |
Nine in ten have 90 or fewer, and 99% have 1,145 or fewer.
The largest account in the sample has 97,643 followers, so accounts with 100,000 or more are not represented here; there are too few of them to move a median. The sampling error on the share with no followers is about 0.1 of a point. This is an old snapshot and not a count of today's users. See methodology.
How many posts do X accounts publish?
A median of 3 in the life of the account. In the same sample, 32.8% show no posts and most show fewer than 10 (61.8%), while 8.3% show 1,000 or more.
| Lifetime posts | Accounts in the sample | Share |
|---|---|---|
| None | 327,686 | 32.8% |
| 1 to 9 | 289,680 | 29.0% |
| 10 to 99 | 186,338 | 18.6% |
| 100 to 999 | 113,028 | 11.3% |
| 1,000 or more | 82,669 | 8.3% |
The median account follows 44 others, and most follow more accounts than follow them (95.0%). 18.6% have neither a post nor a follower. 8.9% are protected.
Counts as stored about January 2024, so they include replies and reposts and leave out anything deleted before then.
How many posts are sent on X per day?
About 350 million, by SpaceX's prospectus: "approximately 350 million daily posts" (SpaceX prospectus (Form 424B4), 12 June 2026). The 500 million on many pages is 13 years old: Twitter's 2013 filing said "approximately 500 million Tweets every day" (Twitter, Inc. Form S-1, 3 October 2013).
The two are not measured the same way, so they do not show a fall. SpaceX counts "original posts, replies, reposts, quotes and media shared daily by users on the X platform, and the real-time interactions, analysis and generative capabilities provided to a user by Grok", and says this "may include posts generated by AI or accounts managed by AI". Twitter's 2013 filing gives its number without that definition.
How much revenue does X make?
SpaceX reports no revenue line for X alone. The closest is advertising: $538 million in Q3 2026, up from $454 million in Q3 2025. Across the first nine months of the year it was $1,248 million, down from $1,323 million.
| Quarter | Advertising revenue |
|---|---|
| Q2 2025 | $426 million |
| Q3 2025 | $454 million |
| Q1 2026 | $343 million |
| Q2 2026 | $367 million |
| Q3 2026 | $538 million |
Advertising fell by $100 million in the first quarter of 2026 against a year earlier, which SpaceX says is "due to an overhaul of the Company's advertising platform which impacted ad sales for a short period of time during the rebuild" (SpaceX prospectus (Form 424B4), 12 June 2026).
The whole segment is not X. Its revenue was $3,201 million in 2025, against $2,620 million in 2024, an increase SpaceX reports as 22.2% (SpaceX prospectus (Form 424B4), 12 June 2026). Of the $581 million rise, $116 million came from advertising and $365 million from X and Grok subscriptions. In Q3 2026 the segment reached $7,560 million, of which $7,022 million is "SI solutions & infrastructure" (SpaceX Q3 2026 earnings release, 20 October 2026), so it no longer says much about X.
The X-only revenue figures we traced on other pages are third-party estimates (see below).
How many people pay for X Premium?
About 4.4 million on 31 March 2026, up from about 4.1 million on 31 December 2025 (SpaceX prospectus (Form 424B4), 12 June 2026). SpaceX counts "X Premium Basic, X Premium and Premium+ paid subscribers".
| Date | X paid subscribers | SuperGrok | All paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 31 December 2025 | 4.1 million | 0.9 million | 4.9 million |
| 31 March 2026 | 4.4 million | 1.9 million | 6.3 million |
How much does X pay creators?
X publishes no rate per view in its Help Center pages, so we print none. "Creator Revenue Sharing sunset on September 7, 2026", and its replacement, Original Content Rewards, pays on "unique impressions from Premium users".
The new program asks for at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days and at least 500 verified followers. "Payouts are issued every two weeks" (X Help Center, Original Content Rewards, 12 October 2026; X Help Center, Creator Revenue Sharing, 29 October 2026).
Are big X accounts gaining or losing followers?
Most were losing, and only slightly. Of 12,326 accounts with 100K to 1M followers, read to the exact follower on 3 April 2026 and 1 July 2026, 72.4% lost followers and 27.6% gained. The median change was -938 followers, or -0.24%. Accounts with 10M or more were the exception: 59.2% gained. The larger the account, the smaller the share that lost followers.
| Followers | Accounts | Lost | Gained | Median % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10K to 100K | 1,408 | 75.2% | 24.5% | -0.32% |
| 100K to 1M | 12,326 | 72.4% | 27.6% | -0.24% |
| 1M to 10M | 4,446 | 62.5% | 37.5% | -0.14% |
| 10M or more | 299 | 40.8% | 59.2% | +0.17% |
The same accounts at both readings, 89 days apart: notable accounts we chose in March 2026, not a sample of X. Accounts that disappeared by July are not counted, and this window has not been extended since. Counts are exact: 1.07% end in 00, about what chance gives, so the changes are not a rounding effect. Our reading method changed on 28 June; ending the window on 27 June 2026 instead gives nearly the same result at 100K to 1M (72.4% lost, median -0.23%).
How often do big X accounts post?
The median account with 100K to 1M followers added a net 0.33 posts a day between 3 April 2026 and 1 July 2026, and 34.6% added none. Accounts above 1 million post more often: 0.24 at 10K to 100K, 0.33 at 100K to 1M, 0.72 at 1M to 10M, 0.71 at 10M or more.
| Followers | Accounts | Net posts a day | No net new posts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10K to 100K | 1,408 | 0.24 | 33.9% |
| 100K to 1M | 12,326 | 0.33 | 34.6% |
| 1M to 10M | 4,446 | 0.72 | 26.2% |
| 10M or more | 299 | 0.71 | 20.7% |
@elonmusk's post count rose by a net 51.3 a day over the same window, counting posts, replies and reposts, less any deleted.
From the change in each account's post count, so deleted posts lower the figure. This is how often these accounts do post, not advice on how often to post.
How long do trends last on X, and how local are they?
A median of 3 hours on a location's top 50, with 24.1% seen on one hourly reading only and just 3.4% lasting a day or more. Most are local: 78.8% of 71,934 names appeared in one location only (30 locations, 7 October 2026 to 4 November 2026).

Hashtags are the minority: 12.8% of board entries overall, though 46.7% in Thailand. Follow what is on these boards now in our X trends archive.
We read each board's top 50 every hour, so we cannot see inside an hour, and a name that falls below 50 counts as gone. A name missing one reading stays in the same run. 969,310 board entries, a median of 653 readings per location. "Distinct names" depends on how fast a board turns over, not on how many people use X there. Only 29 days so far, so this is not a seasonal picture.
Which countries use X most?
Only the EU has official country figures. In January to June 2026, X reports France (12,388,560), Spain (11,032,194) and Germany (9,954,390) as its largest EU countries. For the rest of the world we found no official figure, so we print none.

This is not a history of when people arrived on X. Accounts deleted or removed before the snapshot are missing, and older years had longer for that to happen, so old and young accounts are not a fair comparison.
How much content does X remove?
In July to December 2024, X reports 4,191,171 account suspensions and 10,131,247 posts removed or labeled, a post violation rate of 0.0178%. Spam is counted apart: 335,675,897 accounts suspended for platform manipulation and spam.
In the EU, in January to June 2026, X reports 148,269,257 measures taken on its own initiative, 146,700,384 of them after automated detection, and 1,197 moderators (250 internal, 947 external).

What do these numbers mean for brands and creators?
For brands
- Check what an audience number covers. The newest official figure, about 550 million a month, combines X and Grok. Details
- A small following is the normal case. In our sample 98.8% of accounts have fewer than 1,000 followers. Details
- Plan around hours, not days. A name stays on a board for a median of 3 hours, and most names appear in one location only. Details
For creators
- Read a small decline in context. At 100K to 1M followers, the median account changed by -0.24% in 89 days. Details
- Compare your posting with your size. The median net pace runs from 0.24 a day at 10K to 100K to 0.71 at 10M or more. Details
- Check the new payout rules. Original Content Rewards asks for at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days. Details
These are readings of the figures above, not predictions for any one account or campaign.

How we measured this
Official figures are X's or SpaceX's own, each linked to where it was published. Our own numbers come from three separate sets of data that answer different questions, and we never pool them. None of them is a sample of the people using X today.
- Account sample (followers, posts, following, year created). An index of about 1.1 billion public X accounts created up to September 2023, with counts as of about January 2024. We read 1,000,000 records at 50,000 random positions, 20 consecutive records each, and left out 599 updated later, leaving 999,401. Accounts removed before the snapshot, and anyone who joined after it, are missing. The size of the index is not a count of X's users.
- Fixed panel (gaining or losing, posting pace). 18,991 notable accounts we chose in March 2026, read daily. 18,594 have both readings 89 days apart, and 18,479 of them had 10,000 followers or more at the first (115 smaller ones are left out). Accounts customers asked us to track are not in the panel. It says nothing about small accounts or about any time after 1 July 2026.
- Trend boards. The top 50 for 30 locations read hourly, 7 October 2026 to 4 November 2026. A run is a stretch of readings with the same name, in one location, with at most one missed reading. Names are matched without regard to case. Post volume is not available, so we print none.
- Most followed. We read X's public profile once for each account on Wikipedia's list and for our own largest panel accounts, and keep a count only when it agrees within 10% with what we or Wikipedia already hold. The ranking stops at the first account that fails.
- What we leave out. No customer's order, search or report feeds this page. We publish no estimate of total users or total posts, no share of bots, and no figure for views or engagement, because we hold no sample of recent posts that could support one.
- Refresh. Our numbers are recomputed monthly by a read-only script, and official figures are re-read at the same time. The "Last updated" date changes only when a number does. The fixed panel and the snapshot do not change unless we say so here.

FAQ
Is X growing or shrinking?
No official figure answers this for X alone. X and Grok together had about 550 million monthly users on 31 March 2026 and about 520 million on 31 December 2025, while users of Grok's AI features rose by 28 million in the same three months. In the EU, X reported 64,727,103 people for 1 January to 30 June 2026. That is about 37 million below the report before X changed its format, so it may be a counting change, and we do not call it a loss.
How many people use X per month?
About 550 million across X and Grok combined on 31 March 2026, by SpaceX's prospectus. SpaceX gives no figure for X alone. The count covers people with an X or Grok profile, and SpaceX calls it an estimate.
Who is #1 on X?
@elonmusk has the most followers, 241,460,696 when read on 5 November 2026, followed by @BarackObama with 118,795,026. X publishes no official ranking.
How many followers are considered a lot on X?
In our sample of 999,401 accounts, created up to September 2023 with counts from about January 2024, the median is 2 followers and 98.8% have fewer than 1,000. So 1,000 followers already places an account in the top 1.2% of that sample.
How many tweets does Elon Musk post per day?
His post count rose by a net 51.3 a day between 3 April 2026 and 1 July 2026, the latest window we hold. That counts posts, replies and reposts on the profile, less any deleted.
How many tweets are sent per day?
About 350 million a day, by SpaceX's prospectus, which counts posts, replies, reposts, quotes, media and Grok interactions. The 500 million still quoted on many pages comes from Twitter's 2013 filing, which gives no such definition.
How much does X pay for 1,000,000 views?
X publishes no rate per view in its Help Center pages, so that figure cannot be confirmed from X. Its Original Content Rewards program replaced Creator Revenue Sharing after 7 September 2026 and asks for at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days and at least 500 verified followers.
